Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams are offered at various levels and give the student an opportunity to strive to achieve excellence by focusing on the elements of the level. The goal of preparing for an exam encourages the student to practice and attain a proficiency in their technique. In the process of taking exams, the student learns more than just dance, they learn how to study and apply themselves to a specific goal. They learn how to memorise and retain substantial amounts of material.

All of these are important life skills to develop. The results offer the student another tool to monitor their progress in their dance training. Exam feedback is beneficial to the student and helps them to stay focused on constantly striving to improve their own best performance.

We normally allow 1 to 2 years of classes before students can take their exams to reach a standard that makes them eligible to undergo an exam. To be considered for an exam the student must show commitment and great attendance.

Students wishing to take part in ballet exams will need to do the following:

  • complete 2 – 3 ballet classes per week

  • participate in our holiday ballet exam intensives
